Emergency Procedure
If you think there’s been a gas leak, telephone the National Grid’s 24-hour emergency number on 0800 111 999.
You can also use this number to request minor safety-related repairs within your business premises, or to have repair work carried out on gas meters supplied by the National Grid.
In the event of a
suspected gas leak, think quickly and act carefully.
Take the
following safety precautions in the area around the suspected leak:
Never:
- Smoke or use any kind of naked flame
- Operate electrical switches, off or on
Always:
- Ventilate the area by opening doors and windows
- Turn off your gas supply at its source
- Check and turn off gas appliances
- Report the leak to the National Grid’s emergency telephone line on 0800 111 999
- Report the leak to CNG on 01423 502554
In the event of a fire on your premises:
- Immediately activate the fire alarm and evacuate the building in a safe manner
- Immediately report the fire to the emergency services by dialling 999
- Shut off the mains gas supply if you can do this safely
- Report the fire to the National Grid emergency line on 0800 111 999
- Report the leak to CNG on 01423 502554
