How 'Shower Up' is shaping up!
10 August 2017
You might already know about our ‘Shower Up’ project to bring solar powered shower blocks to a school in Kenya, thanks to our recent blog post. Well, if you don’t know much about it, or if you’d like to know how it’s all progressing, read on!
For those out-of-the-loop, our plan is to convert two 40ft shipping containers into fully-renovated shower units for the kids at Turasha School in Kenya. With one for boys and one for girls, these blocks will be powered by solar thermal for their hot water supply. Not only this, but they will also make use of solar technology for the electrics, such as lighting.
These are the kinds of containers being refurbished for the shower blocks.
The project will serve to make a real difference to these pupils, while helping us to educate children and young people here in the UK about the benefits of renewables and the impact of their decisions as the energy users of the future.
We were lucky enough to travel to Kenya to visit the school, see the site for the shower blocks and speak with suppliers that will be helping to make this project idea a reality.
We now have the final suppliers and have all the quotes for the project. So now we’re now in the process of tying everything together. But, we can’t do it without you. This project needs your help…from a small contribution through to corporate support, you can make a difference and bring this building and its benefits to life.
We will have our crowdfunding page – packed full of rewards for donors – set up by 1st of September: so watch this space!
When the crowdfunding month starts in September, our Twitter feed will be a hive of activity, with plenty of photos and videos you abreast of everything to do with the project. This way, you’ll be able to see your donations make a tangible, real difference in Kenya.
Be part of something amazing….Shower up!
