Project Nexus: What does it mean?

What is it?

Nexus is a project that started in 2007 to replace the database operated by a company called Xoserve on behalf of the gas transporters, and it finally goes live on the 1st June 2017!

This database provides a mechanism for Gas Shippers and Transporters to communicate with each other and update details around switching suppliers, gas usage, asset changes etc.

It’s an old system that was put in place in 1996, so it’s time for a new one! This new system also brings some much-needed updates and improvements from the old one, provisions for SMART metering, and also includes communications with the Independent Gas Transporters, who previously operated separately and didn’t use Xoserve’s systems.

What does it mean to me?

The effect on our customer will be very minimal.

Your gas supply will not be interrupted at any point.

If you sign up with CNG or any other gas supplier from around the 20th May up to the 1st June and you want to switch over as soon as possible, your switching journey could be delayed slightly by up to 7 days.

If you’re joining CNG, then when we process your gas contract, we will send you a letter confirming the date that your supply should go live with CNG (providing your current supplier allows the switch). This date will be correct and will take into account the potential delay.

If you’re leaving CNG, then your new supplier will be able to confirm your switchover date.

How can I find out more?

The OFGEM websites holds all of the official information on Project Nexus and SMART Metering.

Below are some handy links with more information from OFGEM, but if you’d like to chat to us about it at CNG, please feel free to contact us!
